Mining Remediation Authority tenders £1.2 million contract for West Cannock pumping test and temporary treatment

The Mining Remediation Authority (MRA) has gone out to tender with a contract forits West Cannock pumping test and temporary treatment with a total estimated value of £1.2 million including VAT.

The MRA is inviting tenders for a contract for the provision to undertake a 3-month pumping test with a discharge of up to 10 litres per second from the existing borehole at its West Cannock coalfield.

The mine water will require temporary treatment to remove, primarily zinc, iron and suspended solids, and achieve compliance with the environmental permit. The discharge of the mine water into the local watercourse from the treatment plant will be made using a combination of overland pipes and an abandoned culvert.

The process will be managed through the Authority's e-Tendering portal, which provides asecure delivery mechanism and an auditable record of the process. There is no cost associated to using the e-Tendering portal which simply requires a short registration process.

Current estimated start and end contract dates are 1 August 2026 to 31 December 2026.

Deadline for submission of enquiries about the tender is 3:00pm on 31 March 2026, 3:00pm and the tender submission deadline is 4:00pm on 8 April 2026.

The MRA’s estimated contract award decision date is currently 1 May 2026.
