Southern Water has made a direct AMP8 contract award for CSO spill and water quality compliance with an estimated value of £633,000 (inc VAT).

Scope of the contract covers:
Implementation of innovative rainfall-enhanced flow release control to optimise system performance.
Installation of a CENTAUR gate at a suitable site to enable in-field demonstration of water quality benefits.
Deployment of upstream and downstream water quality monitoring to provide data for further improvements and to deliver wider benefits for river status.
Earliest date the contract will be signed is 20 January 2026 – current estimated start and end contract dates
are 20 February 2026 to 20 February 2027 with a further possible extension option to 20 February 2030
depending on additional trials.
The justification for the direct contract award to a single supplier was for technical reasons – the contract has been awarded to Sheffield-based firm Cura Terrae Water Ltd without going out to competitive tender.
