Environment Agency appoints Mott MacDonald to Mapping & Modelling Framework

Mott MacDonald has been selected to support the Environment Agency on its Mapping & Modelling Framework, for a period of up to four years beginning in May 2024.

Flooding Dawlish climate resilience

The new framework arrangements will be based on a national approach with Mott MacDonald providing coverage across all the Environment Agency’s Integrated Delivery Hubs and areas.

The consultancy will deliver a broad range of services focused particularly on flood and coastal erosion modelling, forecasting and flood hydrology improvements, and national/catchment scale modelling, mapping and forecasting projects.

Mark Plowman, Mott MacDonald Environment Agency key account leader and framework director said:

“Our appointment is particularly pleasing because it represents the continuation of a successful partnership between Mott MacDonald and the Environment Agency that has been developed over many years. We are looking forward to working collaboratively with the Environment Agency and all partners on the framework to deliver this critically important programme.”

The Environment Agency designed the framework to help it identify partners who would add value through their approach to social value and the circular economy, plus have the biggest sustainability impact through robust standards, monitoring and reporting. This closely aligns with Mott MacDonald's purpose, but also combines its understanding of climate projections and physical risk and resilience assessment, with its modelling capability, for the benefit of all the regions the Environment Agency protects.

Sonya Evans, 2024 MMF framework manager, said:

“The Mapping and Modelling Framework underpins the work of the Environment Agency, enabling our teams to make informed investment decisions based on data and evidence. The high standard of tender submissions shows the skills and capabilities of the UK industry, and we look forward to working with the successful delivery partners both nationally and locally.”

The Environment Agency was established in 1996 to protect and improve the environment. Mott MacDonald has been working with the Agency for more than 20 years, supporting delivery of its sustainability ambitions through clear efficiencies and savings.
