Scottish Water has awarded a contract for a multi-parameter water quality monitoring system worth an estimated £2 million.

The water company was looking for a system which was well suited to continuous remote monitoring of final effluent waste water, accompanied by the ability to adapt and customise the system to varying monitoring needs (e.g. removal of parameters that are not required) and treatment works design (e.g. no mains power, turbulent FE discharge).
Other requirements included easy access to secure cloud-based data and the provision of training as required. Scottish Water also specified that the energy used by the system must be from a low carbon source, ideally solar and that maintenance must be minimal, and when required, unchallenging and efficient.
The system will be used to monitor final effluent discharges from waste water treatment plants to allow operators to understand performance and resilience and provide further insight into typical performance trends and unexpected events/pollution incidents.
The contract has been awarded to Welwyn Garden City-based Meteor Communications (Europe) Ltd, one of two companies who bid for the work.
