Sunderland City Council has gone out to tender with a civil engineering and infrastructure works framework contract worth an estimated £40 million.

The wide-ranging framework, which will run for 4 years, is being tendered in 13 separate Lots. Construction activities covered under the contract include:
- drainage works
- construction of new surface water/highway drainage systems
- repairs to existing surface water/highway drainage systems
- construction of flood alleviation structures and systems (e.g. SUDS, storage tanks),
- repairs to existing flood alleviation structures
- marine/coastal/river works
- construction of new sea defences
- repairs to existing sea defences
- construction of new river walls
- repairs to existing river walls
Sunderland City Council is tendering on behalf of a number of organisation, including:
