Scottish Water tenders £45m renewable energy schemes contract

Scottish Water has gone out to tender with a contract for renewable energy schemes to be undertaken on behalf of its stand-alone business arm Scottish Water Horizons worth an estimated £45 million.

RENEWABLE ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES

Dedicated to establishing renewable technologies and transforming utilities at home and abroad, SW Horizons has committed to deliver 90 GWh of new renewable energy generation projects across all aspects of the Scottish Water estate, employing a variety of established and emerging technologies.

The utility is now looking for companies to deliver the schemes - primarily direct labour organisations that can self-deliver renewable energy schemes - examples include:

  • photovoltaic equipment;
  • wind generated renewables;
  • hydro generation;
  • energy storage equipment;
  • heat projects based on heat pump technology

The programme will be delivered over an estimated 10-year period with installations varying from small-scale 25-50 kW installs to large projects which will normally not exceed 5 MW. Although in some circumstances the projects may exceed 5 MW, these will be the exception. In addition, some projects will require innovative technologies that are not yet fully developed.

The schemes, which will be pan Scotland Coverage are being tendered in the following two Lots:

Lot 1 - supply, design and installation of renewable power generation assets

Lot 2 - supply, design and installation of low carbon heat technologies

Contractors should be capable of providing turnkey projects including development and design, install and operating stages of the product lifecycle. Contractors will also be required to have the sufficient direct labour to complete the project with minimal use of subcontractors.

Contractors should also be capable of horizon scanning alternative renewable energy technologies and alternative renewable heat technologies, depending on which lot they are tendering for, presenting commercially viable projects to Scottish Water Horizons based on the alternative technologies.

Initial contract term is three years with up to a further five years of extension options. Time limit for receipt of tenders or requests to participate is 9th July 2020 – click here to access the tender documentation.
