United Utilities is asking suppliers with the capability to collect and provide data from 20,000 monitoring points via a Data as a Service (DaaS) to contact it by 30th April this week.
The water company is looking to explore dynamic network management (DNM) which delivers a systems thinking capability to its drainage area teams by collecting data from its sewage network assets, third party assets and the environment and making a real time transfer of the data to a central location. It also wants to see the application of descriptive, diagnostic and predictive analytics to the data to identify any deviations in the system that are likely to result in a loss of volume in the network.

United Utilities’ ultimate goal to understand the complete network, its constituent parts within the broader system and how the company can ensure it delivers exceptional services to customers whilst protecting the environment.
In order to achieve this by 2022 the utility will need to deploy around 20,000 monitors into the sewer network including monitoring the performance of 3000 pumping stations.
United Utilities is exploring new ways of working with suppliers in acquiring such data and less traditional commercial models. The company wants to hear from suppliers who have the ability/experience in delivering data in a Data as a Service (DaaS) model.
Particular interest would be in suppliers who could maintain a data network comprising of multiple data sources utilising multiple technologies from across the market providing a data through subscription.
The water company is inviting companies with experience in this area to provide at a minimum the following information by 30 April 2020:
- company name;
- contact details, including location telephone and e-mail address, main point of contact and position in company;
- relevant case studies of managed data for other clients
