Department for International Development to tender £30m water & natural resources management programme for Pakistan

The UK’s Department for International Development has announced its intention to tender a £30 million water management programme for Pakistan.

PAKISTAN

DFID said in a Prior Information Notice that improving Pakistan’s Water and Natural Resources Governance (IPWG) programme will help strengthen Pakistan’s management of its water to meet future population, agricultural and economic needs, and provide resilience to shocks and climate change.

Pakistan is facing a significant water governance issue which will be exacerbated with climate change, according to DFID. Wide-scale degradation of the natural resource base including heavy deforestation is also impacting the health of its water systems. The programme is aiming to improve the management and use of water and natural resources so to prepare the country for sustained climate resilient growth.

DFID is planning to hold an early market engagement event on 4th December 2019 in Islamabad and is inviting interested suppliers to register for the event. The Department is then planning to go out to tender once the scope of work is fully defined and approved.
