The Environment Agency has awarded a multi-year framework contract worth almost £2 million for low power real-time still image cameras to monitor remote flood defence assets.
The £1.9 million contract, which also includes provision for data and hosting services, has been awarded to Hertfordshire-based firm Meteor Communications (Europe) Ltd.
Meteor’s robust, low power real time 3G / GPRS MRC camera systems are in use worldwide for monitoring remote flood infrastructure. Users access the cameras using Meteor’s intuitive, secure web portal and data is also integrated into the Environment Agency’s existing systems.
The technology focused company manufactures and provides innovative environmental monitoring solutions.
Worldwide many systems use Meteor Radio to obtain data from remote locations. This includes the US Natural Water Conservation Service SNOTEL system which consists of over 700 stations across 11 states including Alaska.
Originally established in 1986, following a management buyout in 2007 the company is now employee owned.
