Southern Water has gone out to tender with a contract for water-treatment chemicals worth an estimated £20 million.
The contract covers the supply of polyelectrolyte (polymer) chemical products which can be used to separate liquid from solids in the water and waste water treatment process.
Estimated total value of the contract is £20 million - Southern Water will appoint up to 3 participants to the framework agreement.
The utility is looking for suppliers to deliver polymers to 45+ sites, across Kent, Sussex, Hampshire (including the Isle of Wight). All polymers supplied under the contract must not include any constituents that may restrict the use in agriculture of the material produced by the process in which the polymer is used.
Polymers are used on 70+ different dosing points, including; centrifuges, belt presses, drum thickeners, gravity belt thickeners and chemically aided settlement in both water and waste water treatment.
The agreement will require the Service Provider(s) to visit Southern Water sites and provide recommendations to further improve and optimise current performance.
Initial contract period is 5 years, with an option to extend up to a maximum of 8 years.
