The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has awarded a contract for loss adjuster services for the Thames Tideway Tunnel Project worth around £272,000 to London firm Crawford & Co.
The contract covers the appointment of a loss adjuster to service Government obligations under the Supplemental Compensation Agreement (SCA) (insurance) limb of the Government Support Package (GSP) to the Thames Tideway Tunnel project.
In the event of a significant insurance event the loss adjuster will be required to handle and assess any claims above commercial insurance excess loss limits which Defra may be liable for.
The loss adjuster will have a key role in advising on Government's liability under the SCA and in managing and advising on claims for excess loss under the SCA, with the aim of keeping Defra's financial exposure under the SCA to a minimum.
The contract length is for 3 years with an option to extend for 2 years. In a business as usual scenario, the loss adjuster’s tasks will include reviewing and assessing summaries of quarterly (non-GSP) insurance claims summaries and risk surveys, and participating in claims related meetings.
In the event of a significant insurance event the loss adjuster will influence the handling and settlement strategy for dealing with significant insurance events and the resulting claims. It will also comment upon whether the amounts claimed are fair and reasonable and that the claims fall within the scope of the insurance coverage.
Crawford & Co were one of 15 firms who bid for the work.
