Southern Water has gone out to tender with a 5 year contract for sand filter maintenance work worth an estimated £2 million.
Southern Water has 194 wastewater sand filters from 7 different manufacturers and over 50 different sites. The sand filters are used as a water purification process, filtering water through a bed composed of layers of sand.
As part of their routine operational maintenance Southern Water requires that a yearly service is carried out on each filter.
Southern Water is seeking to employ one contractor for Lot 1, the routine maintenance of wastewater sand filters and emergency breakdown response across its sites, including:
- Service of sand filters as per the mandatory intervals;
- Maintenance of sand filter compressors as required;
- Attendance to breakdown;
- 24 hours emergency response and repair; and
- Provision of spare parts
Southern Water is also seeking to appoint one or more contractors for Lot 2, the non-urgent repairs and reactive maintenance of its sand filters, including:
- Repair of sand filters and / or sand filter compressors;
- Bed repair; and
- Provision of spares parts
Interested suppliers need to be able to provide the services under Lot 2 to be considered for Lot 1.
