20% fall in profits at Atkins UK

Profits have fallen by 20% at Atkins, the UK’s largest engineering consultancy - operating profit was £24.6 million, down by 20.4% from £30.9 m in the six months ended September 2010. UK revenue also fell - down from £454.7 m for the same period last year to £420.4m.

Fall in revenues at Speedy Hire

Tool hire specialist Speedy Hire has reported a £2.3m loss for the six months to 30 September 2011 and falling revenue with the publication of its latest financial results this morning. Exceptional items moved Speedy into the red – it would otherwise have posted a pre-tax profit for the period of £2.8m.

Enterprise acquires Byzak

Enterprise, the UK's largest dedicated provider of maintenance and front-line services to the public sector and utility industry, has announced that it has acquired the multi-disciplinary contractor Byzak Limited.

Following strong growth in the first half of 2011, international construction group Vinci has reported that business remained steady in the third quarter, while business remains brisk in the UK.

 

The latest Construction Trade Survey published today, shows that a combination of falling demand and rising costs hit the construction industry hard during Q3 and this is only adding to the sense of pessimism over the future.

Fall in revenues at Skanska

Swedish construction giant Skanska has reported a fall in revenue for the nine months from January to September compared with the same period last year  -  down SEK86bn (£8.14bn) from SEK89bn (£8.42bn).

Environment Agency supports Thames Tunnel

The Environment Agency has added its voice to Government’s support for the Thames Tunnel project, following a statement to Parliament by Defra minister Richard Benyon.

Environment Minister Richard Benyon confirmed in the House of Commons yesterday that the projected cost of Thames Water's ‘super-sewer’ tunnel has risen from £3.6 billion to £4.1 billion. This morning the company has just announced the revised routes for the tunnel and the start of a new consultation phase.
