United Utilities has been given the go ahead to build a £200million extension to its waste treatment plant on the banks of the River Mersey in a scheme that could create up to 350 jobs.

Interserve has announced £0.4 billion new contracts announced today, taking its total of major contract wins over last 12 months to £1.9 billion.

Balfour Beatty plc, the international infrastructure group, said that its UK order book has contracted in its latest trading update published this morning.

Thames Water has published a guide to the types of compensation it will be making available as a result of its proposals for the Tideway Tunnel “supersewer” – including the ultimate option of compulsory purchase.

Pressure is building on Thames Water to extend their super sewer consultation - the Mayor of London has written to the Water Minister, Richard Benyon MP, asking him to ‘instruct Thames Water to extend the consultation period to the end of March 2012’.

Costain forward order book up at £2.5 billion

In its latest trading update issued this morning, Costain said it had finished the year with an increased forward order book of £2.5 billion (2010: £2.4 billion), which included in excess of £650 million of work secured for 2012 and over £1.8 billion of revenue secured for 2013 and beyond.

Mouchel pipeline falls by £400 million

Mouchel Group’s pipeline of upcoming sales opportunities has fallen by £400 million according to an Interim Management Statement published this morning for the period from the beginning of the financial year 1 August 2011 to date. The Group also stands to take a £130 million hit on an existing contract with Rochdale Council.

Arup: solid performance in tough market

Professional services and engineering consultancy Arup said the publication of its Annual Results for the twelve months to 31 March 2011 show the firm produced a solid performance in challenging trading conditions.

Anglian Water has been granted a second Drought Permit by the Environment Agency. The new Permit, which runs until the end of April 2012, allows the company to take extra water out of the River Nene at Wansford to top up its Rutland Water reservoir.
