Newly-built wetlands next to Somerset's Durleigh Reservoir are delivering significant biodiversity and water quality improvements as Wessex Water continues its drive to find nature-based solutions to tackle environmental challenges.

Anglian Water has unveiled proposals to create 26 new treatment wetlands across the East of England as part of an ambitious programme of work, which will help protect rivers and some of the iconic chalk stream habitats in the East of England.

 Thames Water is currently trialling smart bugs grown in America which could enable it to treat more wastewater at its existing works.

Following the successful opening of its first wetland treatment site earlier this year on the River Ingol in west Norfolk, Anglian Water has now unveiled proposals for dozens of further sites as part of its business plan from 2020.

Veolia Water Technologies has been awarded a contract to supply MBBR (moving bed biofilm reactor) technology for tertiary ammonia removal at Severn Trent’s Lichfield Wastewater Treatment Works.
