The investment will support future social and economic development in the town, including the development of essential new homes to the North Cork heartland south of the Galtees.

The upgrade will increase wastewater treatment capacity, delivering more reliable, sustainable and high-quality wastewater services for the community. These upgrades will create a strong foundation for Mitchelstown to grow and thrive, supporting local housing, services, and economic opportunities.

The first phase of works involved upgrading the gravity sewer main on Clonmel Road and will be followed by upgrades to the existing wastewater pumping station.

Commenting on progress to date, Uisce Eireann Programme Manager Christine Power said:

“We are delighted to have delivered the first phase of works in this vital project and to be facilitating social and economic growth in the town. This is the first of a series of wastewater projects that are set to be undertaken in Mitchelstown over the coming years, highlighting our commitment to the development of the town”.

Ward and Burke Construction Ltd is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann - the project is due to be completed in late 2027.
