Southern Water is investing £4.5 million to improve water quality at three of its Wastewater Treatment Works across Kent.
The water company is installing new equipment at three wastewater works, Pembury, Cranbrook and Fordcombe, to remove more phosphorous during the treatment process.
This will improve the quality of the treated water going back into the environment and make sure the company meets new environmental standards.
The works, which started in June, are scheduled to be complete by Spring 2026.
Annabel Dewey, Project Manager for Southern Water, said:
“Modernising infrastructure at Pembury will help improve our environmental performance and improve water quality for the future. We’re pleased to see the start of this project and are keen to continue investing in our treatment works across the Southeast.”
Collectively the three Wastewater Treatment Sites serve around 700 properties. The sites and investment breakdown are at Pembury (£2.5 million), Cranbrook (£1 million) and Fordcombe (£1 million).
