More work is underway on Yorkshire Water’s AMP8 mains replacement programme – the water company is starting work today on an £827k investment to replace 2km of clean water pipes in Penistone, Cubley and Oxspring.

The mains renewal project is set to improve reliability of drinking water supply, reduce leakage and prevent water main bursts in the area.
Contract partners, Galliford Try is starting on site today on ther first phase of the project which will run until mid-May.
Phase two will begin week commencing 19 May and run for around seven weeks before finishing.
Shaun Chapman, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said:
“We’re undertaking large-scale upgrades to our clean water infrastructure and prioritising assets that will benefit most from mains renewal, in areas prone to disruption, bursts and supply interruptions. Barnsley and south Yorkshire have been identified as priority areas in our five-year plan to invest £406m to replace more than 1,000km of water mains across Yorkshire in the next five years.”
Over the next two years Yorkshire Water will be replacing over 20km of Barnsley’s clean water network with durable, flexible mains, built to withstand high pressure and temperature variations.
Yorkshire Water has already begun work on a separate £700,000 project to replace 1.7km of clean water mains in Oakworth, Keighley which is expected to take 24 weeks in total.
Contract partner Sapphire Utilities Solutions are carrying out the project to replace pipes to improve reliability of drinking water supply, reduce leakage and prevent mains bursts in the area.
The project is one of three mains replacement schemes currently underway in the Bradford district – with 3.5km being replaced in a £1.5 million project in Laisterdyke, and 1.1km being replaced in Lower Wyke.
A further five schemes will take place in the Bradford area this year alone – resulting in a total of 16.1km of new, resilient, pipework for the district.
