Uisce Éireann is progressing work on its multi-million-euro Clonmel Water Supply Upgrade - more than 4km of a new 15km water main has now installed along the R689 Fethard Road with further pipe laying works also underway.
The project marks a significant investment in water infrastructure across the Clonmel area that will safeguard supply into the future and provide improved resilience to the network.
As well as the installation of the new water main, the project involves an upgrade to the treatment facilities at Monroe Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and upgrades to the Rathronan Pump Station which will connect the Monroe supply to the Clonmel North reservoir and Poulavanogue network.
The project will also address water quality risks for customers on the town’s Poulavanogue supply, allowing it to be taken off the EPA’s Remedial Action List.
Separately, works to upgrade the Glenary Water Treatment Plant are also underway and include the installation of 1.3 km of new water main that will connect the plant to Glenary reservoir, providing improved resilience to the network and further safeguarding the town’s water supply into the future.
Commenting on the project, Uisce Éireann Programme Manager Darragh Hannon, said:
“This project will result in homes and businesses in Clonmel and surrounding areas being able to enjoy a safer, more secure water supply. By connecting to network storage at Clonmel North reservoir, it will also make the supply more resilient and safeguard it into the future.”
The project is being carried out by Shareridge on behalf of Uisce Éireann and will take approximately 18 to 24 months to complete. The next phase of works will advance over the summer months.
Since the project commenced in September 2024, over 1,000 metres of water main has been installed - completion is expected in 2026.
