Uisce Éireann is making significant progress with a project that will enhance the security and resilience of the drinking water supply for over 1,700 customers in Croom.
The project, which commenced in December, involves the construction of 6km of rising main that will connect Croom to the Limerick City supply (Clareville Water Treatment Plant). The significant infrastructure improvement will support social and economic development in the Limerick village.
Almost 5km of modern watermains have already been constructed along the N20 and L1478 in recent months as part of the water supply rationalisation works. The new pipeline represents an €8.6 million investment in improving water supply security and resilience for homes and businesses in Croom.
The drinking water infrastructure in the area was not sufficient to meet current demand and the area has been prone to frequent nighttime restrictions. In addition to creating supply challenges for existing customers, this has also impacted the delivery of new housing developments in the area.
The works are being carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Ward & Burke Construction and it is planned that Phase 1 works will be completed in mid-2024, with commissioning of the existing pipeline from the city to Attyfynn taking place towards the end of 2024.
