Yorkshire Water is replacing more than 1.7km of clean water pipes in Rotherham centre in a £1.6 million investment to improve the strength of the network.
The water company is replacing the pipes to improve the water pressure and resilience of the network for its customers. The investment comes as the current pipes are old and prone to bursting, so the work will reduce the risk of bursts happening in future.
A new pipe will also be installed to the existing network, to strengthen the system for customers in the area.
Yorkshire Water has appointed contract partners OCU Utilities and Hargreaves to carry out the work which will take around nine months to complete – work on first phases of the work started today.
Yorkshire Water has also liaised closely with Rotherham Council throughout the planning of the work and to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum, the work will be completed in phases.

“The investment we’re making around Rotherham centre will ensure that the water network is able to adequately continue serving our customers for years to come, as we’re making the network much more resilient going forward.”
