Yorkshire Water warns over water hydrant tampering

Yorkshire Water is warning its customers in parts of Huddersfield that they may be experiencing some issues with their water supply due to a group of youths tampering with water hydrants in the area.

The utility provider has seen alerts of high flow and low pressure in some areas of Huddersfield. The alerts would usually signal a burst water main – however, in this situation it is revealed that a group of young people are behind the disruptions.

Police were informed that a group of youths have caused huge spurts of water from the hydrants, up to 20 foot in the air. The water company said it appeared that the group had been travelling around the area opening hydrants and causing major issues for local residents.

Yorkshire Water is calling in additional staff to patrol the area and resolve any issues they find. The fluctuating pressure could also cause a surge on the water network and result in actual bursts, which would cause further supply issues.
