Northumbrian Water supports women in science and engineering event

A campaign aimed at supporting women in science and engineering in the North East is holding an event aimed at attracting new members and raising awareness of the opportunities available in STEM careers.

WISE EVENTS

The WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) North East Hub is the regional arm of the national WISE campaign, which aims to increase the participation, contribution and success of women in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

The event, at RTC North, in Sunderland on Wednesday, December 4, 2019, is free to attend and open not only to women in, or considering, such careers, but also to men who work to support them.

It runs from 4pm to 6.30pm, with registration from 3.45pm, and there will be talks from a range of industry experts from housing, engineering, science and much more.

Northumbrian Water Commercial Manager Donna Rawlinson, who is co-chair of the WISE North East Hub, said:

"We are already working with some fantastic partners, including Nissan, Northumbria University and the Institution of Civil Engineers, and we are looking for more people to sign up and get involved.

"We need to work together to make a real difference for women in science and engineering, which will bring massive benefits for businesses here in the North East.

"Joining the campaign is free, and so is this event with some fantastic speakers, networking opportunities and more, so we are hoping to see as many people there as possible."
