Business Stream launches water efficiency pledge

Edinburgh based water retailer Business Stream has announced ambitious plans to help its customers reduce their water consumption by 20 per cent.

The pledge, announced by the firm’s CEO Jo Dow, forms part of Business Stream’s on-going commitment to promote the importance of water efficiency and pro-actively work with its customers across the UK to reduce their water use.

The commitment is expected to help generate greater environmental and financial savings for its customers. To date, Business Stream has helped its customers save over 38 billion litres of water, resulting in almost £75 million in financial savings and over 66,000 tonnes in CO2 savings.

To support the delivery of its pledge, Business Stream will be working with its customers, in particular those that haven’t adopted water efficiency measures to date, to identify and deliver the right water efficiency solutions for their needs.

The activity will be supported by a marketing campaign to raise awareness of the importance of water efficiency and help promote the steps customers can take to make a real difference to the amount they use.

Jo Dow, Chief Executive of Business Stream, said:

“We are passionate about water efficiency and want to work with our customers to help them reduce their water usage so that they only use what they need to. We have developed a vast suite of water efficiency services, and have the expertise and experience to deliver real results for our customers. This pledge reinforces our commitment to deliver environmental benefits and financial savings to our customers by helping them use less water – and we are excited to be launching it today.”

Earlier this year Business Stream became the first retailer to agree a partnership with Waterwise to help promote the importance of water efficiency and conservation to business customers across the UK.

Nicci Russell, Managing Director of Waterwise, said:

“It's so important that water retailers help all their customers reduce their water bills - to help them save money and reduce their impact on the environment. We have long recognised Business Stream’s commitment to promoting water efficiency and we’re delighted to hear that they have launched this pledge. We look forward to seeing the results.”

Business Stream is the largest operator in the Scottish non-domestic water market. The company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Scottish Water with its own board and independent management team. Headquartered in Edinburgh, it also has offices in Glasgow and Worthing, and employs over 370 staff.
