Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water - the water and sewerage provider to over three million people across most of Wales, Herefordshire and parts of Deeside - has appointed a new chair for its Customer Challenge Group (CCG).
The water company has appointed Peter Davies as Chairman of the company’s CCG from 1 February 2016. Mr Davies, who has been appointed on a five year term, has been the Commissioner for Sustainable Futures in Wales, an independent public appointment to provide Welsh Government with support to promote sustainable development.
Welsh Water established its CCG in 2013 to advise and challenge the company on how it engages with its customers as it developed its £1.7 billion Business Plan for 2015-2020. The CCG is independently chaired and includes domestic and business customer representatives, local authorities, environmental groups, regulators and other key stakeholders.
Chris Jones, Chief Executive at Welsh Water said:
“We welcome Peter’s appointment as the Chair of our Customer Challenge Group as it plays a key role in our continued commitment to earn the trust of our customers by meeting their expectations and delivering industry-leading levels of service. We look forward to working with Peter as he takes on this key role from Diane”.
Peter Davies is currently Chair of the Wales Council for Voluntary Action, the Size of Wales, The Teach First Cymru Advisory Board and a member of the BT Wales Board. He steps down from his current roles as Commissioner for Sustainable Futures and Chair of the Climate Change Commission in March.
Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water has separately welcomed the report published by consumer watchdog Consumer Council for Water (CCWater) last week which shows that Welsh Water leads the water industry in England and Wales on a number of key performance indicators that matter most to customers – including the introduction of a new social tariff which will help over 100,000 households on the lowest incomes to pay their water bills.
The CCWater report comes in the wake of Welsh Water being rated the best water company in England and Wales for customer satisfaction and customer trust as measured by the UK’s Institute of Customer Service.
Welsh Water is unique in the water industry as it is owned on behalf of customers, does not have shareholders, and any financial surpluses are reinvested in the business for the benefit of customers.
