Potential restructuring on the cards at Welsh Water

Glas Cymru Cyfyngedig, the not-for-profit owner of Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water, is in discussion with its Members and lenders to restructure the group in order to increase its ability to pursue limited commercial activities to widen the range of its service to customers and to adapt to changes in the water sector.

The potential restructure will not impact on its not-for-profit model. The main focus of the Group will continue to be the provision of Welsh Water’s excellent services to its customers - the treatment and supply of excellent quality drinking water and treatment of wastewater to protect the environment.

A meeting of Glas Cymru Members will be held in the New Year to formally consider the new structure.

Glas Cymru has owned Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water, the 6th largest of the UK’s regulated water and sewerage companies, since May 2001. As a company limited by guarantee, Glas Cymru has no shareholders, and all financial surpluses generated are retained and reinvested for the benefit of Dŵr Cymru and its customers.
