United Utilities to set up solar panel farm

United Utilities is planning to install a solar farm at its site in Leigh as part of its drive to generate more renewable energy to help the company run some of its key sites.

The solar farm will consist of over 4000 solar panels and it is the equivalent size of a football pitch. The £1.25m installation can generate enough energy to power the equivalent of over 300 homes and is due to be set up by the end of September.

Steve Slavin, United Utilities Energy Manager, said:

“This is great news for the environment but it also reduces the cost of energy to run our sites, therefore reducing the effect of rising energy costs on us and our customers’ bills.”
