Northumbrian Water has launched a major water conservation campaign to help residents in north Northumberland save water, energy and money.
The initiative, which will take place in Berwick-upon-Tweed from June until September, is aimed at helping hundreds of homes and businesses save water and slash their energy bills.
Northumbrian Water’s ‘Every Drop Counts’ campaign officially got underway at the Glendale Agricultural Society’s Children’s Countryside Day last Thursday. More than 1,500 children from schools across Northumberland and North Tyneside at the event learned how they could help to save water by using it wisely. Each of the children also received free water saving products from Northumbrian Water including a toothy timer and toothbrush to remind them to turn off the tap when brushing their teeth.
Clair Cooper, demand planning project manager at Northumbrian Water, said:
“Launching our campaign at the Children’s Countryside Day was a fantastic way to get young children and the community involved. Educating future generations in our region about the importance of using water wisely is a key priority for us and we’re confident that we can have a long lasting impact to help protect this precious resource.
“We’re delighted to be able to bring our water conservation campaign to Berwick this summer and help customers to bust those bills and make every drop, and every penny, count.”
The campaign follows the water company’s first whole-town approach to water conservation last year, which successfully helped Wooler save more than 35,000 litres of water per day.
Throughout this year’s campaign, customers in Berwick will be offered a free home water audit and a variety of free water saving devices and utilities can then be installed.
