South West Water says approximately 11 million litres of tap water is expected to be saved each year thanks to community funding for water-saving projects in its region.

South East Water has announced a hosepipe ban for its customers in Kent and Sussex and the use of a hosepipe or sprinkler is now restricted.

Yorkshire Water is reporting that water usage has risen by 130 million litres a day during the recent hot weather – the increase is enough to supply the equivalent of the whole of Bradford which has a population of more than 550,000 people.

Scottish Water has seen customer demand increase by 20% during the dry weather - as a result, the amount of water the water company has put into the network has had to be increased by 150 million litres per day in the past two weeks.

Environment Agency Chair Alan Lovell is warning that consumers will be asked to pay more for water and use less at the same time in the face of rising pressures on water resources.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) is warning Scotland to brace for significant water scarcity, saying the “situation is deteriorating fast”. 

Southern Water is warning customers to use water wisely as demand for water in Kent soars - outstripping supply.

Anglian Water and Affinity Water are among the latest water companies who are calling on their customers to use water wisely and reuse wherever possible as the hot, dry weather continues.

South West Water is warning that the region’s water resources have reached tipping point as summer demand increases. 

Affinity Water has published its new Drought Management Plan 2023 following approval by the Department for Food Environment and Rural Affairs (Defra ) - the plan will replace the water company’s previous Drought Plan first published in 2018.
