Last Friday, Southern Water announced that its reservoirs are finally full. But this news came with a warning: customers must still conserve water as they supply only a small area of the South East – and most of their areas supply comes from underground aquifers which are still at low levels.
A Southern Water spokesperson said: “The underground aquifers are now refilling as the winter rain filters down to them. This is why we were able to remove the hosepipe ban last Thursday (18 January) but we all need to continue to use water wisely.
“We have been really impressed with the efforts of our customers who joined with us in an award-winning campaign to beat the drought.
“Last summer customers saved 43 million litres of water a day compared with two years ago - more than enough water to meet the needs of a city the size of Brighton and Hove.”
