Water industry regulator Ofwat has confirmed that the five yearly price review process will stay for the time being – despite criticism from a number of quarters, including the adverse impacts on the water industry supply chain.

The Water White Paper published by Defra last week has come in for both further support and criticism from a range of organisations.

Cautious welcome for Water White Paper

Today’s publication of the Government’s Water White Paper has generated a wide range of initial comments – some welcoming the overall approach, while others have expressed concern about its implications.

UK water industry regulator Ofwat has published a detailed review of the evidence base for retail competition and separation ahead of the Government’s imminently-expected Water White Paper.

Action should be taken now to protect water supplies for business, agriculture, the environment and people - thereby minimising the risk of water restrictions in the future, says a new report from the Environment Agency.
