Water industry regulator Ofwat has launched a consultation on Veolia plans to unify its three  UK water regulated companies under one appointment prior to its proposed sale.

Ofwat has published the paper to provide the opportunity for stakeholders to consider any issues arising from the proposal to unify the Instrument of Appointments of Veolia Water UK PLC’s (VWUK) three UK regulated water subsidiaries. Veolia said the change will enable it to make savings of £0.9 million a year. 

If the plans get the go-ahead, Veolia Water Central will become the undertaker for the areas currently served by its Southeast and East firms.

Veolia Water Central has made a draft application to Ofwat which Ofwat says provides  sufficient substance to enable stakeholders to consider the broad implications of the proposal.

Deadline for responses to the Ofwat paper is 20 January 2012.
