Profits up 23% at Costain

Costain, one of the UK's leading engineering solutions providers, has announced another strong performance with profit before tax up 23%, with the publication of its interim results for the half-year ended 30 June 2011.

 

Aqua Resources Fund Limited, the Authorised Closed-ended investment scheme managed by FourWinds Capital Management and established to invest in global water opportunities, has reported a “precipitous decline” in the share price of China Hydroelectric Corporation, one of Aqua's investments, with the publication of its unaudited interim results for the six month period ending 30 June 2011.

Scottish Water is about to start a major upgrade to a pumping station in Irvine – one of the key parts of its waste water infrastructure throughout Ayrshire.

Environment Agency Wales has developed a new initiative working with nine local authorities and other local partners to improve wetlands across south east Wales.

International law firm Eversheds is warning that the proposals to charge utility companies who undertake streetworks at peak times could lead to higher water bills.

World Water Week opens in Stockholm

World Water Week has opened in Stockholm with a keynote debate on the 2011 theme, "Responding to Global Changes - Water in an Urbanising World".

Transport Secretary Philip Hammond is due to announce that councils may be allowed to charge utilities to dig up roads at peak traffic times in an effort to reduce traffic congestion.

The Environment Agency has announced that it has cut its CO2 emissions by almost a fifth since 2006/07. And it urged other large organisations to improve their environmental reporting and performance.

Thames Water is recruiting key members of the senior team which will be working on its £4 billion Thames Tunnel super-sewer project.

Lancashire- based MWH Constructors Limited has won a £7 million contract for the design, supply, installation, construction and commissioning of up to 3 ion exchange nitrate removal treatment plants for Cambridge Water.
