£70m investment fund for offshore green economy

 A £70 million investment fund to secure Scotland's place at the forefront of the global offshore wind industry was announced today by First Minister Alex Salmond.

NI bathing water quality improves

The results from the annual monitoring programme of local bathing water quality have shown that the quality of bathing water in Northern Ireland has improved, with 16 out of 24 areas meeting guideline standards.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) is engaging with land managers to discuss the issues associated with water abstraction for irrigation.

Invasive plant species found in River Lagan

The Northern Ireland Environment Agency is asking River Lagan users to be on the look out for a highly invasive plant species after one of Ireland’s most unwanted species Floating Pennywort (Hydrocotyle ranunculoides) was discovered in the River Lagan.

Farmer’s crops ruined by sewage

Anglian Water has been fined a total of £22,000 and ordered to pay full costs of £4,489 after a rising main burst twice in seven months ruining crops both times.
