The latest Industry Forecasts from the Construction Products Association have highlighted the fact that, despite some indicators predicting construction is beginning to turn the corner, the industry entered 2009 with its sharpest falls in output since 1980 and new orders since 1983.

A survey of members of the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) is warning that there will be 40,000 fewer jobs in civil engineering by the end of 2010.

Black & Veatch project wins major award

ImageBlack & Veatch has won two categories of the Institution of Civil Engineers’ (ICE) London Merit Awards, the city's highest honour for civil engineering excellence.

Balfour Beatty has announced that existing shareholders have bought 97 per cent of 199.5 million new shares created to buy Parsons Brinckerhoff, with the remaining 6 million bought by other investors.

Balfour Beatty has published its annual report and accounts, described by Chief Executive Ian Tyler as   “another excellent financial performance in 2008”.

Balfour Beatty has reported a 14 per cent rise in pre-tax profit for the first half of the year - an adjusted pre-tax profit of £108 million for the six months to 27 June 2009 compared with £95 million last year.

Balfour Beatty, the international engineering, construction, services and investment group, has issued a confident trading update.
