Anglian Water will start work next week on a major £1.2m scheme to protect Louth homes from flooding.

The scheme involves the installation of larger sewers and a new storm overflow which will dramatically increase the capacity of the sewer network and reduce the risk of flooding to homes in Eastgate area and a second upgraded sewer in the Riverhead area.

Together, this will create a combined system that will significantly reduce the risk of sewer flooding, helping to protect homes that have been affected in the past.

Nick Randall, Civil Engineer leading the scheme for Anglian Water, said:

“Flooding of any kind can be extremely distressing which is precisely why we are investing in schemes such as this. Riverhead and Eastgate are particularly vulnerable areas so we are pleased to get this project underway to reduce the risk of flooding for our customers there and give them peace of mind.”

The work, which will start on 4th August , will continue until spring 2015.

Work on a smaller £200,000scheme to protect Colchester homes from flooding is also due to get underway next week (4th August). The eight week scheme by Anglian Water will include constructing 115 metres of new sewer and manholes. This new sewer has been designed to take rainwater away from the road and hard surfaces.
