UK construction: subcontractor shortages hit record levels and see record rise in rates
The latest Markit/CIPS UK Construction PMI survey for August has reported the biggest level of subcontractor shortages in 17 years, together with the steepest rise in rates charged by subcontractors since the survey began in April 1997.

The Environment Agency has appointed Team Van Oord, the Joint Venture partnership between Van Oord, Kier, Mackley Construction and Royal HaskoningDHV, to construct a £30 million scheme to reduce flood risk in Kent.
Halcrow wins Falkirk Council flood contract
Halcrow Group has won a £200,000 to provide Falkirk Council with consultancy services covering flooding and drainage related professional services.
The Council has appointed Halcrow as a Term Consultant for the review of development submissions received by the Planning authority with respect to flooding and drainage.
Halcrow, which was acquired by CH2M HILL in November 2011, will provide expert technical under the framework agreement. The contract will run for an initial period of 2 years, with a maximum extension of 2 years.
A total of six firms were in the bidding for the work, which has an estimated value of around £210,000.
United Utilities tenders £120m AMP6 contract
United Utilities has gone out to tender with a major £120 million AMP6 contract to upgrade its Blackburn waste water treatment works and will hold a bidders day later next month.
