Laing O’Rourke will work with Thames Water on a £123 million project to ensure Beckton sewage works can cope with London’s growing population - it currently treats the wastewater of almost 4 million Londoners.

Thames Water has gone out to tender with a major new AMP7 contract to design, construct and commission an upgrade to the current Beckton Sewage Treatment Works (STW) in Essex worth up to £80 million.

Thames Water has lowered a state-of-the-art tunnelling machine into position 20 metres below ground, as part of a £190m project to extend one of Europe's largest sewage treatment works.
