The BAM Nuttall Mott Macdonald jv has been awarded a £23M contract to deliver flood protection for Leeds with works extending for 4.3km from the city railway station to just below Knostrop weir.
The contract was procured by Leeds City Council under the Environment Agency's Water and Environment Management framework.
The scheme, which will provide 1 in 75 year flood protection for Leeds from the River Air and Hol Beck., includes the installation of innovative moveable weirs for the first time in the UK to the replace the existing fixed weirs at Crown Point and Knostrop.
An island separating the river from the canal will also be removed to allow the river and canal to merge at Knostrop Cut to assist the flow of water in flood conditions.
The expected completion date for the scheme is March 2017.
