£100M coastal defence schemes go out to tender

Blackpool and Wyre Borough Councils have jointly gone out to tender for two major coastal flood defence schemes worth up to £100 million.

Blackpool Borough Council is handling the procurement process for both schemes.

The Anchorsholme & Rossall Coast protection works and Rossall Coastal Defence Scheme will involve the reconstruction of a 1.9km length of coastal defences of potentially rock armour / concrete seawall (both pre-cast and in-situ), potential beach re-charge and landscaping details. The existing coastal defences have been assessed as having an estimated lifespan of less than 5 years.

The Anchorsholme Coast Protection Scheme will involve the reconstruction of a 1km length of coastal defences in the form of a concrete seawall / promenade (both precast and in-situ) with landscaping details. The existing seawall here is currently in a progressive mode of failure.

Estimated value of both schemes has initially been put at between £70 million to £100 million.

The contract will run for 84 months from the award of the contract. Time limit for receipt of requests for documents or for accessing documents is 22nd February 2012.

The tender will be run electronically via the North West’s Supplier portal – ‘The Chest’. Anyone wanting to express an interest in the tender and to download/upload all documentation must first register free of charge on The Chest at www.thechest.nwce.gov.uk
