Scottish Water tenders £60 million contract for supply and service of filtration media

Scottish Water has gone out to tender with a contract for the supply and service of filtration media with an estimated value of £60 million excluding VAT.

The tender covers supply, including delivery and installation of products approved for use in Public Water Supply in the UK which form part of an existing or modified granular media filtration process.

Filtration media will include sand, gravel, GAC, reactivated GAC, anthracite, bonechar and Filtralite

Scope of the contract includes:

  • Filtration media including sand, gravel, GAC, reactivated GAC, anthracite, bone char and Filtralite.
  • The inspection (including CCTV), testing, condition reporting and commissioning of existing granular media filtration units.
  • The repair or replacement of defects to the internal structures, components or coatings of existing granular media filtration systems.
  • The design and installation of physical modifications to existing granular media filtration systems, which may include, filter floors, under drainage including Leopold (but not exclusive), filter vessels, tanks and wash units.
  • The removal of existing media and legislatively compliant off-site disposal.
  • Cleaning of granular media filtration equipment, filter structure and internals.
  • Replacement of filter vessels within existing treatment buildings

 

Contract duration is 96 months.

The water company is looking to put a framework agreement in place with several suppliers.

Time limit for receipt of tenders or requests to participate is 12:00pm on 2 October 2026.
