Severn Trent Water has launched a preliminary market engagement exercise on behalf of itself and sister company Hafren Dyfrdwy Cyfyngedig seeking supply chain input about ductile iron pipe and associated fittings for waste water and potable water applications.

Current estimated start and end contract dates are 1 April 2027 to 31 March 2032.

Severn Trent is looking to understand the current marketplace for ductile iron pipe and associated fittings and asking interested suppliers to complete an online form. In addition to asking for company details, location and contact information, the water company is looking for responses to a number of questions, including:

• Whether the supplier is an Original Equipment Manufacturer/ Distributor/both
• Any experience working with distributors of their product if they are an OEM
• Any previous experience with supplying DI Pipe and Fittings into UK water utilities?
• Brief overview of the standards and certifications the products comply with
• Product Offering and Technical Capabilities - for waste and potable applications?
• Do you supply a wide range of diameters, pressure classes, and lengths?
• What coatings a nd linings do you offer as part of your product range?
• What joint types do you provide with your product range?
• What type of testing do you conduct on product and what QA processes do you follow?
• Do you possess full traceability of product testing and certifications?
• Do you have mitigations and contingencies in place for supply risks? (e.g., freight, transportation, global conflicts, raw materials)
• Do you have processes in place to deal with urgent orders and high-volumes?
• Do you currently maintain stock holding in the UK to deal with UK water utilities?
• Do you intend to maintain significant stock holding in the UK to deal with UK water utilities?
• What are the key cost drivers associated with your products?

Deadline to participate in the market engagement exercise is 30 June 2026.Current estimated start and end dates for a future contract are 1 April 2027 to 31 March 2032.

The water company is also asking suppliers to indicate whether they would be prepared to visit HQ for further pre-market engagement at Severn Trent's request.
