United Utilities has awarded an AMP8 contract for the supply and servicing of portable gas detectors worth an estimated £1 million.

The water company will use the gas detection equipment for the safety of colleagues within confined spaces or areas where potentially hazardous gases may be encountered.

The contract was tendered in two separate Lots:

• Lot 1 servicing of existing portable gas detectors (£250,000)
• Lot 2 supply and servicing of new portable gas detectors (£650,000)

Netherlands-based firm 7Solutions has been awarded a contract under Lot 1 – the company was one of five bidding for the work. Dorset-based Breathe Safety Ltd was awarded a contract under Lot2 – likewise one of five companies who bid for the work.

The contract had an estimated value of £1.2 million when it first went out to tender in April 2024.
