Southern Water has appointed civil engineering and infrastructure specialist Barhale to its Lot 1 framework for medium complexity non-infrastructure works.

The £200 million contract runs for an initial term ending 31st March 2026 with an option to extend the agreement to the end of 2030 which would increase the value of works to £600 million.
Under the framework, individual projects and programmes can exceed £10 million in value and will cover:
capital asset maintenance schemes; the support and delivery of new build installations; environmental improvement programmes; new build and planned asset improvements to pumping stations; water, wastewater and sludge process improvement works; mechanical, electrical and control works; and security (SEMD) works.
Work will take place across the whole of the Southern Water network including the Isle of Wight.
Shane Gorman, Water Director (Southern Region) at Barhale is pleased that the civil engineering and infrastructure specialist continues to build both its relationship with Southern Water and also its reputation as one of the UK’s leading sector specialists.
“The water industry is at a key strategic moment and has ambitious plans for both capacity and sustainability,” he said. “We are delighted that Southern Water has selected us as a delivery partner for this crucial programme of works.”
With more than 40 years’ experience in the construction industry, Barhale was originally set up as a specialist tunnelling contractor. The company is now one of the largest privately-owned infrastructure specialists in the UK.
