United Utilities turns to market for energy supply proposals

United Utilities is looking to suppliers in the energy market to submit proposals for gas and electricity supplies.

The water company wants to use pre-market engagement to understand what is potentially on offer before commitment is made to any formal procurement process.

The firm intends to put a contract in place for gas supply which will cover approximately c. 36 000 MWh of gas needed to meet the requirements of 36 meters.

For electricity, United Utilities wants to put a contract in place for the provision of supply of non-half hourly power which will around c.44 000 MWh of electricity to meet the requirements of 3 588 meters.

The utility said it currently has no preference on the type of contract - the exact details of the contractual arrangements and the preferred pricing method is yet to be determined.

United Utilities would like potential suppliers to offer views on different pricing options based on the volumes and meters within its energy portfolio and set out the perceived benefits of their proposals.

Looking further ahead, the estimated date of publication of a contract notice will be 1st August 2019.
