Bedford Pumps Ltd, theUK based pump manufacturer producing bespoke high capacity water and wastewater pumps, has just won the third and final order to supply pumps for the Birmingham Resilience project.

Birmingham Resilience is Severn Trent Water’s £300 million scheme designed to make Birmingham’s water supply more resilient by providing a new back-up water supply for Birmingham and surrounding areas, keeping water flowing for over a million customers.

As part of the project a new water intake and pumping station will be built at Lickhill near Stourport. The pumping station will deliver water to Frankley in Birmingham via a new 25km water pipeline.

The back up supply will ensure the water source for the city whilst enabling the water company to have the crucial time it needs for service and repairs to the Elan Valley Aqueduct, which has delivered Birmingham’s water supply from Wales for decades.

The £1.2 million contract across the three schemes will see Bedford Pumps supplying fifteen pumps in total consisting of:

• six off vertical suspended mixed flow bowl pumps for the New and Existing RGF Filters
• five off canister mixed flow bowl pumps for the Emergency Return Pumps
• four off horizontal dry well inline mixed flow bowl pumps for the Raw Water Pumps.
