Northumbrian Water has gone out to tender with a contract to upgrade the capacity at its Barsham Water Treatment Works at Beccles in Suffolk  worth an estimated £10 million.

The water company is looking to appoint a design and construct contractor to carry out the construction of a new bores water treatment works at its existing site which is in Essex and Suffolk Water's Operating Region.

The project objective is to build a new bores treatment works in order to ensure that the output meets the NWL strategic Network requirements.

The existing bores works are in poor condition and constrictions in the outlet pipe-work of the iron filters mean that the works is not able to process the maximum abstraction licence of 326l/s this is supplied by 6 bore holes including 1 emergency bore.

A new process stream will be required, replacing the existing stream which will need to be de-commissioned once the new stream is functioning as designed.

Scope of the works includes:

• Full design of the plant
• Obtaining full planning consent for the design
• Construction including any mains diversions that are required
• Commissioning then integration of the plant whilst the existing plant remains in supply
• Decommission and demolish of redundant assets once the new works is in operation
• Remediation of the old works once the new plant has been taken over and proved

Proposed start date is 1^st October 2018 with completion scheduled for 2020.

Time limit for receipt of requests for documents or for accessing documents is 31^st October  and 7^th November for receipt of tenders or requests to participate.
