SES Water appoints Doosan as principal contractor for £22m WTW upgrade

Sutton and East Surrey Water (SESW) has appointed Doosan Enpure as the Principal contractor for the water company’s £22 million upgrade of its Woodmansterne Water Treatment Works.

DEL07 Woodmansterne imageLocated in Chipstead, Surrey, the WTW was first constructed in 1905. Water is supplied to the works from a number of deep boreholes in the underlying chalk aquifer. The works will be upgraded to treat a maximum throughput of 50Ml/d, delivering potable water through the local network more efficiently and resiliently.

The scope will include the detailed design, Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) of some key new assets such as a 50 Ml/d Rapid Gravity Filter plant, Chlorine Contact Tank, high lift treated waterpumping station, surge vessels, standby generator, mechanical and electrical upgrades.

The contract will be delivered utilising an Integrated Project Team, members of which will be SESW, Doosan Enpure, a local civil engineering company, CJ Thorne and civil designer, Harold James.

SESW Project Manager Chris Stanbridge said:

“We are looking forward to working with Doosan Enpure on this important strategic project to help secure water supplies for existing and future customers throughout our supply area.”

Avtar Jirh, Managing Director of Doosan Enpure commented:

“We are delighted that we have been awarded this significant contract after a rigorous competitive process and we look forward to working with the SESW team.”

Due to the operational importance and location of the works, the project will require careful sequencing of construction to enable the various parts of the existing works to be decommissioned and then transferred to the new facility. Engagement with the local community will be paramount throughout the project.

Doosan Enpure Limited, based in Birmingham, is a process engineering company with drinking water, waste water and sludge treatment experience in the United Kingdom and worldwide. The firm is a wholly owned subsidiary of Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co Ltd - a US$26 billion turnover Engineering, Procurement and Construction [EPC] contractor based in Seoul, South Korea.
