The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) today announced that Thames Water has been appointed as a tier three sponsor of London 2012, becoming Official Water Utility Services Provider of the Games.

Profits fall at United Utilities

Latest full year results announced by United Utilities to the City yesterday revealed a 17% drop in profits on regulated business for the company. The company’s new Chief Executive Officer Steve Mogford has committed to taking £200 million of costs out of the business.

Costain, one of the UK's leading construction and engineering solutions providers, has announced this morning that it has been instructed to undertake two major water contract extensions.

Galliford Try, the construction and housebuilding group, has just announced a £200 million contract win in its GCA joint venture with Costain Group plc and Atkins (WS) plc to upgrade and extend Liverpool waste water treatment works for United Utilities Group plc.

United Utilities has completed a £4.1 million scheme to connect villages in south west Cumbria to the sewer system for the first time.

Pennon Group, owners of South West Water and waste management company Viridor, has announced its unaudited results for the year ended 31 March 2011. The Group said it was confident that South West Water would “outperform expectations in AMP5.

Go ahead for wave energy converter

A wave energy converter promising reliable power generation from the ocean waves has now reached the phase where a 42 meter long pre-commercial demonstration unit to be tested at sea can be designed and built.

Northern Ireland Water has invested £18m into upgrading rural wastewater treatment systems in the first three years of its Rural Wastewater Investment Programme (RWwIP).

Leading ratings agency Moody’s is warning that Ofwat’s drive to introduce more competition between suppliers could threaten the creditworthiness of the water companies.

Scottish Water has put a massive £150 million contract fo the provision of electro-mechanical repair and maintenance services out to tender.
