Business customers will soon be able to manage all of their major utilities in one place via a single contract multi-utility deal for water, gas and electricity.

Water industry regulator Ofwat has written to the 17 largest water companies in England and Wales setting out its expectations and approach to pre-consultation engagement for the Water Resources Management Plans 2019.

Ofwat publishes new water connection charges

Water industry regulator Ofwat has today published new rules to make the charges for new water connections to housing developments fairer, simpler and clearer.

A report prepared by KPMG for Affinity Water suggests that disruptive regulatory changes, especially in the upstream and network segments of the water sector, are inevitable and will “drive new business models”.

One year on from last winter’s floods which devastated the North of England, hundreds of homes are still awaiting repair, while hundreds of farmers in the worst affected areas are still waiting to receive emergency funding to restore agricultural land.

A recent meeting on competition in the water sector has flagged up the fact that relationships between the water companies may have to change  - culturally conversations that may have been acceptable beforehand, may be less acceptable in competitive markets.

Wessex Water profits up in first half 2016

Wessex Water’s profits rose to £86.1m according to its half year results, with  the company continuing to be recognised as the leading water and sewerage provider for customer service and on track for another year of excellent performance. 

Severn Trent has published details of the full terms and conditions of its proposed acquisition of Dee Valley Water, together with the recommended actions to be taken by Dee Valley ordinary shareholders.

The Government has today released details of its £500 billion-plus infrastructure investment pipeline which includes major projects such as the Thames Tideway Tunnel and the rollout of smart meters.

TCPA Critically unpreparedA new report by the Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) is warning that the majority of new local plans in England are failing to cut carbon emissions and to plan for the scale of severe weather predicted over future years.
